How to Use the Random Number Generator
Choose whole numbers or decimals, set a range and quantity, prevent repeated integers, sort the output, and copy or export random results.
How does this guide help you use the Random Number Generator?
This guide explains which values to enter, how the Random Number Generator processes them, and how to read the resulting estimate. Follow the sections below to check assumptions, compare realistic scenarios, avoid common input mistakes, and understand when an official source or qualified professional should take priority over a planning result.
Before You Start
Decide whether the task needs whole numbers or decimals, whether endpoints should be possible, how many values are needed, whether repeats are allowed, and whether the original generation sequence matters.
Choose Whole Numbers or Decimals
Select Whole numbers for integers such as participant positions, dice-style values, or classroom questions. Select Decimals for continuous-range samples or test values that need digits after the decimal point.
Enter the Minimum and Maximum
The maximum must be greater than the minimum. Whole-number mode requires integer endpoints and includes both of them. A range from 1 to 10 therefore contains 10 eligible integers. Decimal mode generates values across the entered interval and may display the maximum after rounding.
Choose How Many Numbers to Generate
Enter a quantity from 1 through 100. A single result appears as one large value. Multiple results expand into a responsive list that grows with the output instead of hiding values in a fixed-height box.
Require Unique Whole Numbers
Select Generate unique numbers when no integer may repeat. The number of available integers is maximum - minimum + 1. If the requested quantity is larger than that count, the form explains why the request is impossible.
Set Decimal Places
Decimal mode supports 0 to 10 digits after the decimal point. This setting controls formatted output. Two underlying fractions can round to the same displayed decimal, so decimal results are not guaranteed to be unique.
Choose the Result Order
Keep Generated order when sequence matters, or sort the final values from smallest to largest or largest to smallest. Sorting happens after generation and does not change which values were selected.
Generate, Copy, and Export Results
Select Generate or submit the form with the keyboard. Use Copy result or Copy results to place the formatted output on the clipboard. Multiple values are copied one per line. Download PDF creates a themed report containing the mode, range, quantity, and generated values.
Common Generator Setups
- One pick: whole numbers, 1 to 100, quantity 1.
- Five different positions: whole numbers, 1 to 30, quantity 5, unique enabled.
- Decimal sample: decimals, 0 to 1, quantity 10, three decimal places.
- Signed values: minimum -50 and maximum 50.
Privacy, Assumptions, and Limitations
- Generation occurs in the browser using Web Crypto random values.
- The generator does not accept a seed or reproduce earlier output.
- Results are not stored as a drawing audit trail.
- Decimal uniqueness is not supported.
- Do not use the interface for regulated drawings, passwords, cryptographic keys, recovery codes, or security tokens.
