Personal Loan Examples With Payments and Fees

Review three personal loan examples comparing deducted and financed origination fees, monthly payments, total interest, extra payments, and payoff savings.

How should you use these Personal Loan Calculator examples?

These examples turn the Personal Loan Calculator inputs into complete scenarios with stated values, calculation steps, and interpreted results. Use them to check how the calculator behaves, compare your own situation with realistic cases, and identify which inputs have the greatest effect before relying on an estimate.

Three Personal Loan Examples

Each scenario below is generated by the same tested engine used on the Personal Loan Calculator. All three begin with a $25,000 request, a 10% fixed note rate, a three-year term, and a 2% origination fee so the effect of one changed choice remains visible.

Example 1: Origination Fee Deducted From Proceeds

The $500 fee is withheld from the requested amount. The modeled principal remains $25,000, but usable proceeds fall to $24,500.

Requested amount$25,000.00
Amount financed$25,000.00
Net proceeds$24,500.00
Monthly payment$806.68
Total interest$4,040.50
Interest plus fee$4,540.50

This structure preserves the smaller financed balance, but the borrower receives less cash than requested.

Example 2: Origination Fee Added to Principal

The same $500 fee is financed. Net proceeds remain $25,000, while the starting balance becomes $25,500.

Amount financed$25,500.00
Net proceeds$25,000.00
Monthly payment$822.81
Total interest$4,121.30
Interest plus fee$4,621.30
Payoff dateJul 2029

Financing the fee raises the payment by $16.13 and adds $80.80 of modeled interest.

Example 3: Add $200 to Each Monthly Payment

The fee returns to the deducted structure, but the borrower plans to pay $200 above the required payment each month.

Scheduled payment$806.68
Planned monthly payment$1,006.68
Accelerated interest$3,127.08
Interest saved$913.42
Months saved8
Accelerated payoffNov 2028

Under the model, the loan ends in 28 payments instead of 36. Actual savings depend on the lender crediting extra funds to principal without a limiting charge.

Compare the Three Scenarios

ScenarioFinanced principalCash proceedsMonthly planModeled interestPayoff
Fee deducted$25,000.00$24,500.00$806.68$4,040.50Jul 2029
Fee financed$25,500.00$25,000.00$822.81$4,121.30Jul 2029
$200 extra monthly$25,000.00$24,500.00$1,006.68$3,127.08Nov 2028

No scenario is universally best. A deducted fee preserves the lower balance but reduces usable cash. A financed fee preserves proceeds but increases payment and interest. An extra-payment plan reduces interest only when the larger payment remains affordable and the lender applies it as assumed.

Reproduce the Results

  3. For Example 1, select fee deducted and leave extra payment at zero.
  4. For Example 2, select fee financed.
  5. For Example 3, return to fee deducted and enter $200 of extra monthly principal.
  6. Select Calculate after each change and compare payment, proceeds, total interest, payoff date, and monthly schedule.
