Password Generator Examples and Security Settings

Compare long random password settings, letters-and-numbers configurations, manual-entry exclusions, and no-repeat mode with calculated entropy.

How should you use these Password Generator examples?

These examples turn the Password Generator inputs into complete scenarios with stated values, calculation steps, and interpreted results. Use them to check how the calculator behaves, compare your own situation with realistic cases, and identify which inputs have the greatest effect before relying on an estimate.

Example 1: Password-Manager Default

Use 40 characters, enable lowercase, uppercase, numbers, and symbols, exclude ambiguous characters and brackets, and allow repeats. The filtered pool contains 68 characters. Requiring all four types produces approximately 243.49 bits of modeled entropy and the Very strong interface label.

Example 2: Letters and Numbers Only

For a service that rejects symbols, use 24 characters with lowercase, uppercase, and numbers enabled. Keep ambiguous-character and bracket exclusions selected. The pool contains 54 characters and the modeled entropy is approximately 138.09 bits. Length helps compensate for the smaller pool.

Example 3: Easier Manual Entry

Use 20 characters with all four types enabled while excluding ambiguous characters and brackets. The pool remains 68 characters and the modeled entropy is approximately 121.61 bits. The exclusions can reduce transcription mistakes, but storing and autofilling the result is preferable to repeated manual entry.

Example 4: No Repeated Characters

Use 24 characters with the default filtered pool and enable No repeated characters. The engine samples without replacement and requires every enabled type. The modeled entropy is approximately 139.38 bits. This option is appropriate only when a receiving service requires it.

These values are calculated from the exact filtered pools and required-type rules. They do not estimate how long a real attacker would need or whether the account is otherwise secure.

Reproduce a Configuration

  1. Open the Password Generator.
  2. Enter the length shown in the example.
  3. Enable the listed character types.
  4. Select the required exclusions and repeat behavior.
  5. Select Generate password and verify the displayed pool, length, and entropy.
  6. Select the password only when you are ready to copy and save it; the visible value changes after copying.

Never Reuse a Published Password Example

A password printed in an article, screenshot, test fixture, or public repository is known to attackers and has no useful secrecy. This page documents configurations and metrics without publishing reusable results. Always generate a fresh password and use it for one account only.
